We can all change for the better

I believe that we all have massive potential and that it’s often locked away. Even when life seems really hard, I believe that we can all find agency if we seek it with the right support. When we find this agency, our lives change. I learned this when I had coaching myself. I changed my job and my life forever as a result, and now have the privilege of supporting others in their mission to become clearer thinkers, to become happier people, and to find fulfilment and contentment. Lucky me!

I can help you change your life

You are the person who holds the key to your own future. My job as coach is not to advise you, but to hold a mirror to you, to ask the right questions, and to help you gain clarity. This clarity of thought leads to tangible action and real change. I can help you to find answers and to overcome the barriers that have been holding you back. I have experienced this myself, and I see this transformation in my clients. You can change too.

What I’m like as a coach

My clients say that they make significant progress when they work with me. I am warm and reflective, and I meet clients where they are without judgement. I am also skilled at challenging and holding clients to account. I make space for my clients to think and ask questions that get to the heart of matters.

My coaching isn’t about using fancy words. Nor is it magic. In fact, it’s about simplicity. Complex language tends to hide the truth. It is when we can speak plainly, and articulate ourselves using the simplest language possible that we make space for the emotion, the truth, the noticing. My coaching is about listening and observing deeply.

Because I create a safe and warm space for clients to explore, I am able to invoke significant challenge, and to dig deep. I ask direct, open questions, that seek to get to the truth and help clients understand things differently. Change can feel uncomfortable, and I do not shy away from this discomfort. However, I ensure that my clients are safe and in control of their coaching journey. Onwards!

My background

I am a parent, a lover of the outdoors, a reader, someone who hugely values his friends and loved ones, and someone who believes in things being fair. I am a Londoner who is currently spending most of his time in the wilds of Eryri, north Wales. I am learning Welsh. Slowly!

I had a successful career in education. I spent years working as a teacher in schools in Manchester and London, eventually working as a headteacher in an inner-London primary school. The school I ran was a happy and successful place, and a place that was run ethically and thoughtfully. I particularly enjoyed developing staff and thinking with other leaders about how best to support all children to reach further and gain understanding of the world around them. As a leader, I worked with staff and stakeholders from a very wide range of backgrounds, and relished the challenge of supporting them. I sat on a number of educational boards in London and was often asked to speak on education at national events, particularly about safeguarding, reading, and the use of technology in schools.

Before teaching, I completed a music degree, and ran an audio engineering company. I have volunteered with a charity that takes children and vulnerable adults camping to wild parts of the UK for many years.

My training and accreditation

I am an experienced, qualified coach, with many hours of experience. My clients work in a wide range of industries. I have completed the Practitioner Diploma in Executive Coaching with the Academy of Executive Coaching (AOEC), meaning I have had more than 60 hours teaching. I work to a strict code of ethics which you can read here, and I receive regular professional supervision.

I came to this process with underlying insecurities about my professional capabilities and lacking clarity in my next steps within my career. Jack creates a coaching environment rooted in trust and confidentiality which enabled me to explore and re-assess aspects of my identity, insecurities and strengths in a safe but challenging way. Led by expert questioning and warm encouragement, I was enabled by this process to appreciate my previous achievements from new perspectives and I gained great clarity on how to move forward in my career. I now feel confident in myself and my professional direction. Thank you, Jack!
